The Color Fred was the a name that won by popular vote in a poll Fred posted online. The Color Fred started back in the days of his former band, Breaking Pangaea. It was during this era in his career that he spent much of his free time in a dark, remote corner of his house that was my basement studio. The outcome of this time spent was a collection of songs far removed from anything else he was playing at the time. Most of the songs were acoustic guitar with singing, but on many others, he would play drums, bass, shakers... whatever. The project really began to take shape when one of these songs, "Heading Back East", appeared on an Equal Vision Records compilation. In January 2005, He played my first live shows as "The Color Fred". These included a show near his hometown in PA, and a NJ show supporting his buddies, My Chemical Romance. These first shows were a raw, stripped down version of his work with just him and a guitar. The songs he played at the shows gave a full range of his writing, going back as far as his early days in Philly punk band, Brody.

He has played a handful of dates with Circa Survives Anthony Green, Owen, Envy On The Coast, Zella Mayzell and Stars Hide Fire. During these shows Mascherino was supported by former bandmate Will Noon on drums and then-bandmate Matt Rubano on bass. On August 23rd, 2007, Equal Vision Records announced they would be releasing The Color Freds debut album, Bend To Break on October 30th, 2007.
