Charles Robert "Charlie" Simpson (born 7 June 1985 in Woodbridge, Suffolk), is an English musician, singer and songwriter. He was the youngest member of BRIT Award-winning pop band Busted, and is now the lead vocalist, guitarist and co-songwriter in alternative rock band Fightstar. Along with co-founder Alex Westaway, Simpson pens the lyrics for the bands songs. The frontman is a multi-instrumentalist, competently playing guitar, keyboards, piano and drums.
He has two older brothers, Will and Edd — Will was born in 1980 and is the vocalist and guitarist in Brigade and Edd was born in 1983 and is the lead singer and guitarist in an alternative band called Union Sound Set. Simpson has a very musical family dating back to Sir William Sterndale Bennett (mothers maiden name) in 1826 who was a British pianist, conductor, and composer, a notable figure in the musical life of his time.
On the 29 July 2009, he made a Myspace page for his acoustic solo work. There are currently 3 songs on the page, Dead Man Walking, Empty Guns (Demo), and Carry Her. Carry Her was previously available on The Sufforlk Explosion.
In March 2010, rumors began circulating in the British press that Simpson was about to re-join previous band Busted.[25] However, these were quickly quashed by Simpson when he responded by stating, “I wish Matt and James all the best with their future projects but I want to make it unequivocally clear that I have no interest what-so-ever in re-joining Busted and I never will.”[26] The rest of the band have since announced they are "taking some time off" for the remainder of 2010 to work on separate projects before regrouping in 2011 to begin writing a new record. Simpson has started working on a solo acoustic album, while Westaway and Haigh will be completing post-production on the bands film and working on some music videos.[27]
On 27 May 2010, Rock Sound reported that Simpson had began writing and recording his debut solo album. The project is in line with Pledge Music and a free downloadable demo of a track entitled, "Thorns" was made available.
