Honestly formed in the spring of 2003 and is based out of Atlanta, GA. Honestly is made up of former Marys Eyes founders Justin Land (lead vocals) and Joe Thibodeau (drums) and fellow Atlanta artists Rob Attaway (guitar, keys, vocals), Matt Dashner (bass), and Matt Melton (guitar, vocals). The band spent the better part of the spring of 2003 in Austin, TX working on their first full-length record. Working at Matchbox Studios with producers Dwight Baker (Podunk, The Box Gods) and Daniel Mendez (Lit, Lucky 7, Eve 6), the band completed recordings for their album, Have a Nice Life (released in September 2003). The band will be touring extensively at venues throughout the eastern United States in the coming months, focusing mainly on clubs and colleges/universities.
Honestly is represented by Eric Godtland Management, long-time manager of Third Eye Blind.
Honestly has already started a buzz in the southeast following the release of Have A Nice Life. "Strange Way," the first track on the album, has been added to the playlists of Atlanta Clear Channel affiliate 96 Rock (96.1 WKLS-FM) and 99X (99.7 WNNX-FM). "I Dont Know" has also been spun on 96 Rock and is receiving regular airplay on Atlanta Blue Sky radio and is featured on BMI.com. Honestly is the featured September "Artist of the Month" on Atlanta Blue Sky as well. In addition to 96 Rock (96.1 WKLS-FM), Montgomery, AL radio station 95.1 WXFX-FM, The Fox has also added Honestly to their playlist. Popular music website Alternative Addiction.com has now added Honestly to their Unknown Top Ten list, which features the top unsigned bands nationally.
Artists and songwriters that have influenced Honestly include U2, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chris Cornell, Adam Duritz, and The Police.
