Tommy Marth,The Killers Sax Player Commits Suicide

Tommy Marth, the saxophone player for The Killers, was found dead on Monday morning at his home in Las Vegas. The official cause of death was suicide. He was 33.

The Killers posted a statement on their Facebook page, saying:

“Last night we lost our friend Thomas Marth. Our prayers are with his family. There’s a light missing in Las Vegas tonight. Travel well, Tommy.”

E! News reports that Marth was found at his Las Vegas-area home on Monday. Details about the sax player’s death were not released but a spokeswoman for the Clark County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Marth had committed suicide.

Marth joined the band in the studio in 2005 and recorded two albums with The Killers. Marth can be heard on the band’s second and third albums, Sams’ Town and Day & Age. In 2008 he became part of The Killers’ touring lineup.

Ryan Pardey, a fellow Las Vegas musician, told MSNBC:

“I’m just trying to make sense of things right now and help some people who aren’t doing very well. He was one of the most talented people in our community and one of my closest friends since we were 18.”
