Duff McKagan's 'Tenderness' Hits No. 1 on Top Debuts and Top Vinyl Debuts Charts
Duff McKagan’s TENDERNESS(UMe) has entered the Top Debuts and Top Vinyl Debuts Charts at No. 1.
The charts are compiled by the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS), a collective of 43 independently owned record stores in 25 states across the country.
Produced by (and featuring) recent Grammy winner Shooter Jennings—and praised by Rolling Stone Country editor Joseph Hudak for being “more country sounding than some mainstream Nashville releases joining it on record-store shelves”—TENDERNESS (UMe) sees McKagan reflecting on his experiences traveling the globe over two and a half years on Guns N’ Roses’ Not In This Lifetime tour. Rolling Stone’s Kory Grow called the album “raw and sobering,” adding “Tenderness is a grand gesture that works. Woke looks good on Duff.” “Duff McKagan’s punk edge hasn’t left him, but instead has been refined into a loving world view that believes there’s still a chance for humanity,” wrote Fred Thomas for AllMusic. “This bright outlook combines nicely with some of the strongest and most disarming songwriting of McKagan’s career.” Added Kerrang!,“Country-fueled it may be, rather than the expected full-pelt rock, but so open is this letter that it easily succeeds in transcending genres.” Entertainment Weekly,Chicago Tribune, Consequence of Sound, Guitar Player, Yahoo! and LA Weekly also praised the album, hailing its stunning Americana-esque sound and poignant lyricism.
Backed by Jennings and his band, McKagan’s currently touring in support of the album and playing Thalia Hall in Chicago tonight (see itinerary below).
