Nazareth

Double Trouble In Nazareth Camp

Classic rock band Nazareth feat.original members Dan McAfferty and Pete Agnew will release a new album "The Newz" to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
But they´re also accusing former guitarist Manuel Charlton of doing the same.
Read below:

"It has been brought to our attention that there is currently another band trying to pass itself off as Nazareth. The band comprises of Manuel Charlton and three of his American friends.

The way they have written their press release reads as though Manuel Charlton has rejoined Nazareth. This is untrue, very misleading and designed to be so. Admittedly the press release eventually names the other three members of the band more than halfway through, describing them as "the new Nazareth line up", but not before they advertise "Nazareth featuring Manny Charlton". This whole thing would be hilarious if it wasn´t so serious. Imagine "the legendary Scottish rockers", as we are constantly referred to in the Press, being represented by these American imposters. Even worse, they seem to be advertising their shows as "The World 40th. Anniversary Tour", which is exactly what we, Nazareth, are calling our tour in 2008, (see band website tour page). This is with a guy who has not been in the band Nazareth for over 17 years and some American mates of his.

We ask you real Nazareth fans to look out for any advertised shows trying to sell this bogus band and warn other people, including the venues, that this is not Nazareth and guide them to our website. We are also told that they are constructing a Nazareth website, so you can imagine how confusing this could become and how detrimental it will be to the career of the band known as Nazareth.

Thankfully, all the other ex-members of Nazareth have not decided to steal our name, otherwise we could have five different Nazareth´s out there. We are obviously fighting this thing and so far all the promoters who have booked them have cancelled once they were informed of the truth. We will keep you up to date with developments but, meanwhile, thought it would be right to let you all know what is going on.

To you all over the world, thanks as always for your support and enthusiasm and we look forward to seeing you at one of our shows during 2008 on "THE NAZARETH WORLD 40TH. ANNIVERSARY TOUR".

Keep the faith.
Nazareth.

Dan & Pete have been members of Nazareth continuously since their inception. Manny, Zal Cleminson, John Locke and Billy Rankin have all been members and since left. Dan & Pete are the continuity in the band. Without Dans voice, how can it be Nazareth? Stones without Jagger? Free without Paul Rodgers? I'd like to see Manny performing with a Manny Charlton Band performing his solo work, MCB songs and of course Nazareth classics which he is more than entitled to play. Why just perform Naz classics with a Dan McCafferty soundalike? Manny is a very accomplished musician and writer, so I'd rather see him play under his own name (nothingb wrong with billinghimself as formerly of Nazareth, after all his greatest work was with them). The fact remains that Manny left Naz in 1990 and the band have never stopped working. I think that it's a bit like Mick Taylor touring as the Rolling Stones featuring Mick Taylor - it wouldn't be the Stones, therefore Manny's band (however good) are not Nazareth. Just as a footnote - Jimmy Murrison, Nazareths current guitarist, is very far from 5th rate. He's got Manny, Zal and Billys licks down perfectly.

Dan and Pete are destroying a once valued name in the rock n roll world. Hiring a 5th rate guitar player and family members. Once Darrell Sweet died and Manny was fired. niether band should be able to call themselves Nazareth. Manny has called his band Nazareth with Manny Charlton. Dan and Pete should call their band Nazareth with Dan and Pete. To much of a biased article. People should go see both bands and then see where the real talent and hits came from. Nazareth with Manny Charlton http://nazarethlive.com

the real truth
They can call themselves Nazareth because they have never left the band they formed 40 years ago. Manny was fired or quit, depending on which bio you read. Darryl died (otherwise he would probably still be in the band). They can call themselves Nazareth the same way as AC/DC, Led Zepplin, Thin Lizzy, or Deep Purple did. Bands change personell all the time, to varying degrees of success. Now to have left a band that has continued to tour and record with two of the still living three original members since you left 18 years ago, then hire three American musicians straight out of a bar band, and call them the new Nazareth lineup. How can Manny justify that!!

Truth
How can they call themselves "The Nazareth" when two of the founding members, Manny Charlton and Darrell Sweet, are not in the band?
