Review

Keyboard virtuoso Derek Sherinian has an impressive CV touring and recording with Billy Idol, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Dream Theater, Planet X, Platypus, Yngwie Malmsteen and now also a member of the supergroup Black Country Communion. Derek has released several studio albums with "Oceana" as the latest effort which comes out in late August, it was written and produced with Toto drummer Simon Phillips. Along the incredible line up of guest guitarists we can find Steve Lukather (Toto), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Joe Bonamassa (BCC), Tony Macalpine (Planet X), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake) and 2 great bassplayers such as Tony Franklin (Blue Murder) and Jimmy Johnson.

This is nothing but a brilliant fusion rock record in the same vein as Jeff Beck´s There and back, the quality of the musicianship is on the same level as the roof of the world, Tibet! Simon Phillips shows what a magnificent drummer he is on songs like "Mercury 7" and "Ghost runner". But mostly, this is Sherinian´s work and he is truly the ace of the album. A grandiose keyboard performance where my favorites are "Oceana" and "Five elements".

Tracklisting 1. Five Elements
2. Mercury 7
3. Mulholland
4. Euphoria
5. Ghost Runner
6. El Camino Diablo
7. I Heard That
8. Seven Sins
9. Oceana

Did you know that?

The guitarist that gave Michael Jackson“s "Beat It" such a characteristic sound was Eddie Van Halen.
