For Madina Lake, World War III closes one chapter and opens another. Madina Lake set the stage for an immersive three-album trilogy with their debut, From Them, Through Us, to You in 2007 and introducing more characters on their 2nd album Attics to Eden in 2009. The plan for World War III was to outline the battle between good and evil in the final chapter of this fantasy, however, real evil intervened. In June 2010, Matthew Leone was brutally injured after stopping a man from beating his wife. He ended up in a coma for five days with a fractured skull, broken jaw, and a swollen brain. The Smashing Pumpkins even played a Chicago benefit that raised $80,000 to cover his medical expenses.
Madina Lake have done their best album so far with World War III, this is not a dark album with the title and the recent happenings in mind. It´s a very positive album with hope and a bright uplifting sound. 3 songs were featured on their 2010 "The Dresden Codex EP", the first single "Hey Superstar", the amazing "Heroine" and the catchy "They´re coming for me". But the album also include stunning modern rock anthems like "Across 5 oceans" and "We got this" that sounds like a killer hit to me. The 2nd track "Imagineer" is also another highlight that I like to return to all the time, what a superb album!
