So-called super groups tend not to live up to expectations. May have to do with that one expects too much, but also that the bands do not deliver. This band consisting of Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley of Fall Out Boy, Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano of Anthrax, Keith Buckley and Josh Newton, formerly of Every Time I Die.
However, is an exception and delivers an album better than expected. Really like their straight and slightly gritty rock with metal influences, like a harder Thin Lizzy meets Led Zeppelin.
They must have been very inspired when recording this since they have come up with both a great style and a great collection of song. One thing is to find a cool sound, but without the songs, you’re nothing (except Motothead). The Damned Things, however, got both and delivers an album full of attitude and energy. They walk between dirty rock to catchy punk / pop, which makes it both melodic and alternative.
The only negative I can find is that the first half feels much sharper when it comes to the songs, but overall it is still a very cool record that you should check up.
