Review

Before the Storm is the third full-length album from British singer/songwriter Jack Savoretti. His debut album "Between the Minds" from 2008 is a brilliant album and it was interesting to see if the new one could live up to the expectations.

First of all I must say that to me it sound like that Savoretti has changed his sound a little bit from Between the Minds. It started on the second album "Harder than Easy" and I honestly think this sound fits better. It is more organic and not as polished as the debut album. Overall there is a happier feeling to this album

Before the Storm is a great album. From the opening "Not Worthy" to the closing "For the Last Time" there is not a single bad track. I espcially like the more up-tempo songs this time. An example is "Come Shine a Light" which is the kind of songs that you instantly find yourself nodding your head and tapping your feet along to. Another one of the up-tempo songs is "Lifetime", I think this has to be one of the poppier songs that Savoretti has done and it just sounds great! The slower songs are however of the same high quality.

Savoretti has also developed as a singer, his voice is very soulful and very pleasant to listen to. Just listen to "Breaking the Rules" and you will hear what I am talking about. He aslo has a nice raspy touch to his voice that I really dig. Fans of, say, James Morrison and Paolo Nutini are bound to like this.

To sum up this is a great album from a great artist. Jack Savoretti deserves more attention and this just might be the album that really gets him that. Brilliant Mr Savoretti!

Did you know that?

The Who were originally called The Detours, then changed their name to The Who after a suggestion by Townsend´s friend Richard Barnes. Their first manager, Pete Meaden, renamed them The High Numbers, and they released one unsuccessful single, Zoot Suit, under that name. When EMI dropped them the band sacked Pete Meaden and went back to being called The Who.

It is said another possible reason was because of Peter Townshend´s grandmother, who would always refer to popular bands as "The Who?" mainly because of hard hearing.
