Review

Post grunge/Hard rockers Oleander out with their 4th
album "Joyride" which is just what the title says,a
mighty fine joyride!
This Sacramento based band
debuted with their self titled EP in 96 and then
released their first full length "Shrinking the blob"
in 97,two years later the 2nd out was "February son"
and the third and finest album until now "Unwind" in
2001 took this post grunge/hard rock style with
a real face lift.
The new album will definitely
reach all those fans of Foo Fighters,King?s X and
similar acts that were dissapointed with their latest
boring efforts,in my opinion they are anyway!
I have
always believed that the singer in this band had the
name Oleander but now I know better because the band
members are:Thomas Flowers-Vocals,Guitar
Ric
Ivanisevich-Guitar
Doug Eldridge-Bass
Scott
Devour-Drums

The first single "Hands off the wheel" didn?t take me
that far at all which I had hoped for but it?s
a typical Oleander song.
There are better tunes
here that are single candidates like "Better luck
next time" with a wonderful refrain and a hook in
the bridge that will bring your thoughts to singer
Billy Squier in a modern rock way.
"30,60,90" is
also one of the favorites and that song breathes
King?s X all over it,oh la la!
Dave Grohl would?ve
been proud writing a song like "Fountain and vine"
which surely could be the hit they want on this CD.

The slow ballad "Rainy day" sure has some serious
Kurt Cobain vibes but grows slowly on me but it?s
spooky close to Nirvana?s sound.
"King of good
intentions" can fool anyone that Soundgarden has made
a comeback, lovely song with remarkable good melodies.
There are some heavy riffz on this album and I?m
a sucker for those you know, just take "Don?t break
my fall" and you will play airguitar like you had
Jimi Hendrix reincarnated in you.
If you haven?t
got any albums starting with the letter "O",you will
now.........
