Review

"Live at the O2 Arena" + Rarities" is the 3rd live album from American hard rock band Alter Bridge, captured on their powerful performance in London on November 24, 2016.
The band play songs from all their 5 studio albums but more than half of the setlist is made from the 2007 album "Blackbird" and the latest record "The Last Hero". I guess they´re close to the heart of the bandmembers.
I think the 2-disc live album sound really great and that it´s not just another compilation of hits where the production normally is too polished and clean, like so many live releases lately. No, "Live at the O2 Arena" sounds live and raw. Awesome.
The 3rd disc of B-sides and rarities is only interesting for the fans that don´t own the Best Buy versions of all their studio albums because the major part of the 11 tracks have been released either on the exclusive Best Buy version or the Japanese editions.
Except for "Cruel sun" and "Solace" that both are unreleased tracks from the "One Day Remains" sessions, a cool fact is that the band had intentions of calling themselves Solace before they decided for Alter Bridge.
A great release from a great band!

Did you know that?

Myles Kennedy was in a band called ´Citizen Swing´ from Spokane, Washington. The band released two albums, Cure Me With the Groove and Deep Down, before disbanding in 1996. ´Cure Me With the Groove´ was a jazz-influenced pop album best described as Stevie Wonder meets Stevie Ray Vaughn, while Deep Down was a much heavier album, dropping all of the pop pretense in favor of heavy guitars, soaring vocals, solid and infectious beats and a bit of the ´jazz flair´ of the trumpet. Vocalist and lead guitarist Myles Kennedy, formerly of Cosmic Dust, eventually went on to front The Mayfield Four and later Alter Bridge.
