Review

If Sweden’s got one artist who is our equivalent to BILLY IDOL, it must be KARL KANGA. The music we get here on Karl’s debut album is very close to BILLY IDOL, with some vibes of THE CARS as well.

Almost every ingredient on this CD (or vinyl) sound a lot like Billy Idol. The guitar sound, the music style – and yeah, even the great Idol:esque voice of Karl Kanga.  I mentioned the hints of THE CARS, which can he heard in the second song “Anything for kicks”.

But the main artist shining through is absolutely Billy Idol, and the quality of mighty fine too! Cool saxophone adds here and there by Danish ace JENS HAACK. In the band on this album you also find well-known (for Swedes anyway) DAVID CARLSON on guitar, who used to play with Dan Hylander’s RAJ MONTANA BAND. This album is a total recommendation to all fans of Idol. There’s also a second album by Karl Kanga from 1989, entitled “Fuel injected dreams”. Get both. (SWEDISH DIAMONDS’ series, #5)
