Review

Man, it’s been 14 years since this gem saw the light of day. About time to spread the word, since I think this album is way too overlooked.

BORN ELECTRIC may be quite unknown to most hard rock collectors, but the trio is a very reknowned bunch of musicians. Back in 1993 they had the band CRASH with MIKAEL ERLANDSSON singing. There was one really nice CD out which will also be reviewed here in due time.

It’s all about melodic hard rock here. And the quality is superb. Imagine hints of Swedish comrades HUMAN RACE and Norwegian band SHAVE, as well as occasional vibes of VAN HALEN. This is truly good, with biting guitar playing from JAN ELIASSON who’s also the lead vocalist. His partners in crime are brother LARS ELIASSON (drums) and JOHN MELANDER (bass, keyboards).

Not only do they manage to deliver tempo filled goodies, there is also a lot of feeling to be found. The slightly bluesy rocker “Living on loving” is a fantastic song that could have rendered these guys fame if this world was fair.

The opener “Born electric” is one of the songs that reminds me the most of HUMAN RACE. Energetic, with a lovely beat and still with melodies. “California star” is one song with cool and very VAN HALEN:esque guitars. Plenty of cool twists to be found on this CD. I totally recommend it! (Swedish Diamonds series, #27)
