Defrosted- released in 1997 - was Gotthard's veryfirst live album. The extremely popular acoustic version was only the fourth album release from the Lugano based hard rockers and within three months it reached double-platinum status in Switzerland.
To this day, it's still seen as a cult-milestone within the band's career that helped establish their reputation as the most successful band from Switzerland. For more than 25 years, Gotthard have thrived in the global spotlight thanks to their outstanding songwriting and spectacular live shows; with a career that includes 16 No.1-albums, over 3 million records sold, multiple awards and over 2,000 shows all over the planet.
And now, 21 years after the first edition, the circle is completed as Gotthard return with Defrosted 2, an ultimate unplugged-compilation of Gotthard's greatest hits, recorded on the defrosted tour in March.
The concept is the same as it was over 20 years ago - to capture the unique chemistry between the band and the fans.
The circumstances that the band find themselves in however are very different.
Defrosted 2 combines the pride of their lengthy career by showcasing their fantastic musical abillity.
As soon as Gotthard begins to play the first notes of the purest acoustic sound the audience is hooked.
New (Australian) vocalist Nic knows how to play with the fans and i must admit he does a fantastic job replacing Steve Lee after his tragic accident.
Gotthard kicks in the show with 'Miss Me' a nice groovy track which shows the vocal avillity of Nic.
The strings section and background vocals give the album a perfect multi layered sound which results in a very rich listening experience.
Songs like 'Hush', 'Heaven', 'Remember It's Me' and 'Bang' All have this unique Gotthard feel of quality.
One song i have to give some more attention, 'Tequilla Symphony No5' is the perfect blend of rock meets classic. the version here really stands out from the other songs to my opinion.
the song 'Bye Bye Caroline' is lyrically inspired b Status Quo's 1973 hit 'Caroline', the live-opener of the UK rockers for 25 years, the track was created witt Francis Rossi himself, who was also involved in contributing guitar and duet vocals. The song was spontaneously written backstage on the last Rock meets classic tour.
On disc two they deliver a fantastic acoustic cover of Deep Purple's 'Smoke on the water'.
Defrosted 2 is absolutely another Gotthard milestone. A must buy!
