The world needs more cool voices, especially in these days when modern pop artists tend to sound like thay have swallowed a bird and still try to sing. BK MORRISON from Canada is something out of the ordinary, sounding a lot like the late FERGIE FREDERIKSEN mixed with JIMI JAMISON! TUG OF WAR is a highly interesting project, hopefully evolving into a full-blooded band in a near future.
This album is written in its entirety by TOMMY DENANDER who’s also the producer along with KHALIL TURK of the Escape Music label. Lots of TOTO vibes and groove to be found, I assure you. I also think a bit of CHICAGO although in a heavier costume.
Guesting the album are background vocalists BILL CHAMPLIN, JOSEPH WILLIAMS and CHRIS OUSEY, BILLY ORRICO on drums and BRIAN ANTHONY on bass. Denander of course handles guitars and keyboards. A lot of cool guitar licks and solos, naturally!
“Come home” is like TOTO meets ALANNAH MYLES with a nice triolic beat. Denander’s project RADIOACTIVE comes to mind in a number of songs, which ain’t bad! Another fave track is “I won’t surrender”, and also try out “Have mercy” with some spices from the classic song “Jane” (JEFFERSON STARSHIP).
On this album Denander shows how to combine rock, AOR, groove and some r’n’b into a really good mix that will be of interest to fans from different genres – all the way from westcoast and yacht rock fans to hard rockers.
