I am not sure if I’ve ever felt this melancholic or even sad when writing a review. The reason if of course the heartbreaking fact that this is most likely the last album there will ever be from TONY MILLS, well-known singer in bands like TNT, SHY, SIAM and more. He is diagnozed with cancer and it is looking really bad.
It’s a good thing though that if this will be his farewell album, it will be a fine way to say goodbye. This is really good! Stylewise a mix right between AOR and melodic hard rock, it is delivered in a fine production that actually brings a smoothness to the sound in the major part of the album.
The players backing Tony up are TOMMY DENANDER (guitars, keyboards), Tony's wife LINDA MILLS (bass) and PETE NEWDECK (drums). A solid trio for this type of music. And believe me, Tony Mills still has the same fantastic voice as ever!
There’s a good variation on this platter too. The slightly bluesy “Running guns” with its triolic beat is classy, not to mention the nice semi-ballad “Bonnie’s farewell” which even includes tasteful saxophone solos!
The thing about the smoothness in the production is that even the roughest parts of the album fall within the frame without feeling out of place. Sometimes I actually think of STREETS (with Mike Slamer and Steve Walsh) when I listen to this CD. And of course, the SHY vibes are not far away.
Everyone can find favourite songs here, which is a strength in itself. I say bravo, Tony! It’s an album for very melodic colletion.
