Review

Fans of NIGHTWISH and EPICA should listen up! Or rather read this. ASTRALIUM is a quartet from Italy, consiting of soprano ROBERTA PAPPALARDO, bass player GUISEPPE PAPPALARDO, drummer SALVO GRASSO and guitarist EMANUELE ALESSANDRO.

Before anything else is said, I must personally say there’s quite a lot of heavier moments than what I’ve heard on NIGHTWISH albums. That being said, I am no expert on the fields of symphonic metal. At times I think of LANA LANE, in the more straight forward melodic hard rocking moments. One example is “Whisper in the silence”.

The quartet is adding quite a lot of keyboards (only programmed or played by guest players – it is not mentioned) that make the production rich and powerful. The grandness is there in softer songs as well, like the nice semi-ballad “Hope is gone”. A really good effort.
