Review

Without the Tricks, there would be no Marvellous 3,Enuff?z?nuff or Flipp and ofcourse hundreds of other bands in the powerpop/rock and roll genre!

Cheap Trick are the leaders and the main influence for many modern rock bands today,as a matter of fact-there would be no modern rock at all if it weren?t for C.T!

You could say we follow every move that Rick Nielsen and Co make or as singer Brynn Arens says of the "New Kings of Rock" band FLIPP!..-If you love Rock and roll you gotta be a Cheap Trick fan, they co
authored the fxxking book!
I couldn?t have said it better myself,Flipp has a lot to thank the Tricks for getting their own brilliant sound with some major C.T vibes.
"Special one" is their 14th full length studio album and the first in 6 years, they returned to their early sound on the latest self titled album in 97 and it was the start of a new beginning where they tried to sound like the first 2 albums.

Gone were the AOR/pop from the 80?s and the simple typical "In color" sound was back but without the same good songs, when Rick Nielsen,Bun E.Carlos,Robin Zander and Tom Petersson now goes for the same thing
on the new album....I can say this time the result is so much better!

"Special one" sounds more like "Dream Police" from 79 but without the excellent title track (I mean who can write such a masterpiece these days),mix a little bit of the sound from Robin Zander?s solo album(93) in this new effort and we come pretty close to how C.T?s 2003 album sounds like!
There are some Jeff Lynne/Traveling Wilburys harmonies over the tracks "My
obsession" and "Words",both could?ve been on Zander?s solo album.

"Sorry boy" and "I?m my best friend" sounds like twin songs to "Raise some hell" and "Need your love" from DREAM POLICE,slow and mighty stuff great produced.
My personal fave?s are "Pop drone" (just gotta be released as a single) and the opening rocker "Scent of a woman" (a new C.T classic and a true live fave I think).

I must confess that the songs doesn?t have the same high class as the early works but "Special one" is a whole lot better than their latest 2 albums "Woke up with a monster" and "Cheap Trick(97)".

All in all,the fire in Trick?s Rock will burn for
a long, long time......now you have to excuse me,the title track echoes out in my headphones and it?s like taking a flight with Beatles to the Orient, lovely!
