Jules Shear has truly been a hero since the 80´s when I first discovered him. His cool voice, clever lyrics and sweet melodies found the way right into my heart. Now it´s 2004 and the man has just released an album as he has explained like this:
- I was making CD compilations from my record collection just for fun, so I could listen to them in the car. Then one day I realized that I wanted to record these songs myself?
And here is the album with twelve cool versions of Jules Shears favorite songs.
What about them then? Sometimes I´m allergic to ´cover´-albums but that is when artists just wanna show the audience that they can be an exact copy to the original. It´s completely uninteresting. But in this case with Jules - that problem surely doesn´t occure. He´ve done lovely and personal versions of the songs. Some of the songs are not that known for a wider audience, and some are. All in all a lovely piece of plastic, and a love story between a unique artist and his love for the music. The production signed by Stewart Lerman doesn´t have much more to wish for either. Lovely low-key production quite near the sound of Marc Jordan´s masterpiece "Reckless Valentine".

Tracklisting 1. I've Got to Have a Reason
2. In the Summertime
3. Husbands and Wives
4. It Ain't Gonna Work
5. Be Nice to Me
6. Baby, Baby (I Still Love You)
7. Too Much Between Us
8. 1913 Massacre
9. Something You Got
10. Guess I'm Dumb
11. Ain't That a Groove
12. Breakfast in Bed

Did you know that?

James blunt´s "Goodbye My Lover" was recorded in his slightly insane landlady´s bathroom where the piano was kept.
