For me it?s always exciting when a new Marillion album is approaching, and ever since I visited the pre-listening party in Stockholm in early March I have been waiting eagerly for Marbles to arrive ? and finally its here. The limited-edition packaging is really something extra, a large and thick box set that holds the double CD edition comes with a hard-copy book consisting of 130 pages! The artwork and design is breathtaking and it will certainly be the artwork of the year when 2004 comes to an end. The album will also be one of the best to come out 2004 (definitely); its modern sounding with a crystal clear production and with an overall sound-picture that makes the hair on your neck to stand at attention for 99 minutes! Sound wise Marbles continues what was started on its precursors Anoraknophobia (2001) and Marillion.Com (1999) with songs like This Is The 21st Century, If My Heart Were A Ball It Would Roll Uphill and Interior Lulu. I don?t have to convince the Marillion fans though they already know what I?m talking about, therefore it is with pleasure I can say that Marillion with the release of Marbles, for the first time in a long time definitely will gain loads of new fans when the word about the brilliance of Marbles will echo around the globe. Finally Marillion will get the attention they so highly deserve; they are the definitive masters in delivering highly original and genuine music full of feeling and atmosphere. The highlights are indeed many, but at this early stage The Invisible Man, Fantastic Place, Ocean Cloud, You?re Gone and Neverland really stands out. The regular 1CD version will be released on May the 3rd while the 2CD version is available now from the bands website.
