From out of nowhere comes a new album from German melodic hardrock act Universe. They released their latest album in the early 90s but now they are back with a brand new album called "Is There Something" that is produced by the band and Charlie Bauerfeind(Axel Rudi Pell, Cans).
Universe plays a mix of Swedish and German melodic hardrock with lots of guitarriffs and melodies in the same vein as Pink Cream 69, Jaded Heart, Shakra and Treat. The problem with Universe is that they don?t have enough strong songs to fill out a whole album.
The album starts off though with a great melodic rocker called "Don?t Wanna Lose". This is a song that includes lots of hooks and a catchy chorus with lovely melodies a?la Treat. Another highlight on the album is "Children Of The Night" that is a strong arena rocker with powerful background vocals that reminds of Jaded Heart. There are a couple of more tracks that gets approved but not more. Songs like "Hero", "748" and "Lay It Down" are way too ordinary , they need better songs to fill out a whole album and the good ones don?t hold up this album the whole way. There is quality for sure in this band and they really show that in a couple of tracks and hopefully they will manage to write somemore tracks with higher standard on the next album and then Universe will be a act to look out for.
If you have an album with Universe and dig it then this new album will please you for sure.
