The Los Angeles modern rock quintet has been reduced to a duo on the long awaited follow up album to the mighty successful debut "Camino balmero" from 2001,guitarplayer Sean Woolstenhulme left the band for a carreer in Lifehouse and all the songs on "II" were written by singer Alex Band and guitarist Aaron Kamin, the only original members remaining in the band. But they also wrote the whole debut album so this is nothing new for these two guys, they scored 2 world wide hits with "Adrienne" and "Wherever you will go" but the best song on Camino Balmero is the Goo Goo Dolls smelling "Stigmatized". Now can they pull off another album in the same vein and with the same calibre of songs?!,ohyes they truly can....."II" is a strong follow up album for all modern rockers out there with the 4 opening songs starting out as big hit contenders in "One by one","Our lives" (the new single which also is produced by Clif Magness,"Things will go my way" (talk about big chorus) and "Chasing the sun" (these two are also prod. by Magness and maybe the best tracks of the album, holy smoke). Marc Tanner has produced the rest of the album and there?s nothing to complain about coz the sound is warm, huge and crystal clear. I really love Alex Band?s voice that I think of as the perfect modern rock voice like a mix of Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20) and Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam),Alex has the feeling and the right voice to suit this exceptional good modern rock. Camino Balmero was a brilliant debut and "II" is just as good,The Calling deserve every penny they get on their bank account for selling lots and lots of copies of their 2 lovely efforts.
