Review

There it is then, the new album of the melodic.net faves Jars of clay! After some great albums like their debut, "If i left the zoo", "The eleventh hour" and "Who we are instead", we now get a compilation of old Christian hymns performed in the Jars tradition. You might think that we again get a worship album like they turn up every once in a while, but then you are mistaking. They don?t ride on the commercial bandwagon but they still hold to their own distinguised style. Modern pop with alt.folk parts with an, as usual, excellent Dan Haseltine on vocals. Some of the hymns are rewritten and arranged in a way that they are hardly recognizable anymore, but the words of the writers of the past are the most important part of the songs. Timeless hymns transformed into modern music. Songs like the U2-ish "God will lift up your head", "O come and mourn with me awhile" the beatle-esque "It is well with my soul" and opener "God be merciful to me(psalm 51)" are well worth a listen and make this album once again a very good performance by one of the best Christian bands out there! Recommendable.
