Hanna Pakarinen won Idol 2004 in Finland and got huge success in her homecountry. I was on vacation in Finland this summer and heard her first single from her new album and I was hooked. I got a hold of her debut album that was a nice but more pop oriented affair with a few winner songs. It has sold over 5500 copies in Finland and that?s pretty good. So now she is back with a brand new album and more rockier stuff. Ok, many may be tired of hearing all these Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson and Ashlee Simpson copycats but I can say that even if Hanna sound very much like them - she has her own identity and she rocks the hell out of them in my opinon, this is a new sensation. I could easily compare her with Sweden?s melodic chicks Sofia and Ana. This is an album filled with hired songwriters such as Per Aldeheim and Elofsson to mention the most famous. It rocks from the start with "Out Of Tears",a song with brilliant riffs, hooklines and a chorus that gets stuck in your head right away. "Stronger Without You" reminds of Lambretta with class and the chorus is catchy like hell, brilliant start of the album. Listen to the beautiful "Wasted" that starts slow with only Hanna and a piano but blows out to a rocket that reminds of Michelle Branch. Listen to the riffantastic "Falling Again" with touches of Evanescence plus "Damn You" which is a wonderful ballad with lovely melodies and it smells like a hit from a long way. The song of the album is the first single "Kiss Of Life". Stunning rocker with a chorus that hits you like lightning. What a song. The only downside on this album is the boring rocker "One Way Or The Other" that feels little out of place. There is also an acoustic studio jam of "Run" that also is featured on her debut album. Nice version but the original is much better. If you?re into female melodic rock then this is a MUST, one of the better albums in this genre for a long time. May be hard to track down but check with SONY/BMG Finland.
