It is often said the toughest and most important album in a bands career is the third one, if there is any truth in that it sure doesn?t seem to have bothered this quintet! Because in my book ?Silence Of Another Kind? really outshines its two precursors, which says quite a lot though the fact is that both of them are excellent albums.
Swedish five-piece Paatos goes from strength to strength with their self patented blend of sombre melancholy pop and majestic folk inspired progressive rock. The rhythm section is tight and challenging, the guitars are striking, heavy and beautiful, the keyboard layers are massive and female singer Petronella has a lovely and clear voice. Paatos should appeal to fans of Scandinavian progressive rock as well as lovers of ambient and electronica, and also those into composers like Angeldo Badalamenti and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
The absolute highlights of this fine album can be found in songs like ?Falling?, ?Is That All?? and ?Not A Sound?.
Don?t be scared to try something new, I am pretty sure that Paatos could be your new favourite band - and it is more fun to be part of something before it is on everybody?s lips?
