Boston based synthesizer addict Michael Hensley creates computer made music like a 21st century club version of Gary Numan and I´m pretty sure his record collection contains lots of electronic music where my thoughts go to artists like Erasure, Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, Pet Shop Boys, New Muzik, Howard Jones and Ultravox. "Fire behind me" is quite an enjoyable piece of work where you will find several memorable melodies and I really think the ambient factor takes away the feeling of this album being too computerized.
The second half of the album is a bit weaker than the first half and the vocoder effect gets a bit annoying after a while but I can´t turn down a synthesizer dinner made of "This machine", "Walk in", "Take me away" and "Totally gone". The intro of "Can I do this alone" will do just fine as a theme to a remake of Das Boot! Hard beats served!
