Review

Mike Tramp is the only original member left in todays White Lion when they return with a brand new album. Yes, the Lions are back their new album Return Of The Pride which is a nice comeback album but they don’t reach the same level as the earlier albums.
I think the biggest missing link is the original guitarist and songwriter Vito Bratta. The new album has a more rawer and rockier production than before and the songs don’t have the real White Lion touch and the guitars don’t sound as good.
Out of the 11 tracks on the album I think the quality is very even with a couple of songs that stands out more. They start off with the almost 9 minutes long Sangre De Cristo that rocks really good. Dreams reminds very much of the song Love Don’t Come Easy from the Main Attraction album, great melodies and a strong chorus.

Live Your Life is a guitar driven rocker with a modern touch more in the Firehouse vein. Best song of the album is Set Me Free that starts slow but blows out to a brilliant rocker with fantastic guitar riffs and hooklines. Another highlight is the heavy and epic Battle At Little Big Horn where Mike sings with great feeling and the song has great turns, melodies and a powerful chorus.
We know that Mike can write fantastic ballads and this time around the delivers a nice piano ballad called Never Let You Go. The last song Take Me Home is an acoustic song that’s a bonus track, ok song nothing more.

A nice comeback from White Lion that sounds better than Mike Tramps solo albums and has places where they really show that they can deliver good songs. The grading would have been higher if the production had been a bit stronger. Not the best White Lion album but I´m sure fans of this band will take this to their hearts as well. See you guys in Norberg later this summer.

Personally as a fan i am very happy with this album, it is right in the middle between Mike Tramps solo albums and the original White Lion from back in the 80's and 90's. Clearly this is not a glamrock album, it is more pure classic rock which to my opinion fits the current line up and mike's voice very good. the reason that Vito is not in the band is because mike asked him to join in many times in the past but he always refused, Mike moved on, which is the best decision he could have made. The new style will fit the old fans and still is a natural progression from glam to where the music has grown to. Vito is not missed, he would to my opinion not fit in this band at all! if you like classic rock with a voice that sings with passion and pure emotion this is an album which you should get straight away.
