We can´t be any bigger so we have to focus on getting better! said Chris Martin of Coldplay about the new album "Viva La Vida". The million selling band Coldplay shows an experimental side on the new album and doesn´t take the safe lane with writing a dozen new pop hits. This record is filled with so called album songs that works better if you listen to the entire cd in one take instead of picking out 3-4 songs. I hear elements of Pink Floyd in some moments but the typical Coldplay trademark is there too with beautiful atmospheric melodies that will embrace the heart. The first two singles "Viva la vida" and "Violet hill" are very successful just as expected but I would like to point out songs like "Lovers in Japan" and "Death and all his friends" as new Coldplay classics as well. The majestic intro "Life in technicolor" is superb, all I can say is Coldplay will not only fill out stadiums with this new record, they will take on the parks and the cities as well. The 2nd half is magnificent!
I've heard Elbow's album in 2008 and yes that's great but this is even better. Don't be put off just because they're big. They're big for a reason - because of the ability to write faultless albums like this one.
