This is the highly anticipated album from Minneapolis based rock group Throw the Fight. These boys have been building up quite a rumor for themselves on the underground scene. This is not undeserved because this is good music with a high quality production. If you like your music with a little bit growling, some harmonized choruses and double pedal base drums this record might be for you. The first thing that comes to my mind when I listen to the album opener, Ready for War, is that they sound like a lighter more tamed version of Bullet for My Valentine. You’ve got all the ingredients with the things mentioned above and there is also a lot of guitar solos throughout the record, nice!
One small thing that bothers me is that a lot of the songs sound the same to me, it is turning in to a wall of sound and sometime I do not realize that the tracks changed. Because of that, the tune It’s For You is a welcome change with a sound that sounds nothing like the rest of the songs. This song contains no growling at all and it shows of the great voice of singer James Clarke. Maybe the album would have benefited of more songs like that, he really does have a great voice.
There are some other songs that grip me and catch my attention; The Wreckage is one of them, where they sing about dying in a car wreck (?). Another one is track no 3, His Blood, My Hands which has really violent lyrics about vengeance. Those three songs are the highlights for me, the other songs are good as well but they do not tend to stay on my mind. I wonder why since this is quality music, maybe it just me?
If you think that BFMV is to violent and heavy or if you liked Funeral for a Friend when they were screaming more you should definitely check this one out!
