Review

Oh, here´s something very cool! My old FRONTLINE side-kick, as well as this web site´s editor, Pär Winberg managed to get session players PER LINDVALL, SVEN LINDVALL and STAFFAN ASTNER to release a jazz/fusion CD of much interest. You get both soft fusion in the vein of Janne Schaffer, as well as surprisingly heavy stuff at times. Examnples of the former are "Have you been bronked lately?" and "Camaro" - where I also think of guys like Eric Johnson, Erik Borelius and Larry Carlton. Examples of the latter are the Jimi Hendrix or BURNING WATER (Mike Landau´s band) flavoured "Nysses butik", the funky "El Perro" and the final song "Finland". Yeah, the song titles tell you these guys have got a good sense of humor. And the way they play! Now, everyone knows that per and Sven Lindvall are among the best musicians in Scandinavia. But Staffan Astner really surprises me here. Sure, I know him as a frequently hired studio player for top musicians in Sweden - but his playing is like from another world. All three BRONK dudes are performing like never before, and the variation of songs and styles do not give you a chance to get bored. Get this one! The word play and sound tribute in "Dealer Stan" (yes, of course it´s STEELY DAN getting a tribute here) is worth full price.
