Review

The Portland based trio Above The Golden State is led by singer/songwriter Michael Watson and he´s joined by Tim Aylward on keyboards and Brook Mosser on drums (Telecast).
Their self titled debut album on Sparrow records is a timeless christian rock/pop affair influenced by bands like Weezer and Delirious?.
You can describe their sound as westcoast rock meeting good ol´ powerpop, there´s no doubt this record is done by pro´s - every single melody, music part and song arrangement is classy.
This is music to daydream to or just get in the right feel-good mood, I would like to applause Michael Watson´s fantastic vocal performance.
For fans of Seven Places, Mainstay and David Crowder Band.

A very well produced album with a band that plays a cool sort of american acousticbased-rock but also with a big portion of the big UK arena sound and even a touch of the 60’s like in “I Love You So”. The songwriting is solid as a rock and so is the production. Just listen to track number two – “Gaze Into Your Eyes” and the softer “Guster-smelling” “Streets” are both fantastic. And there are many more on here I could mention. Check out this band. They’re worth your attention without any doubts. *** 1/2 stars

Did you know that?

Creed producer John Kurzweg was signed in the 80´s by Atlantic Records and released a westcoast album – under his middle name, John Phillip – before ultimately being dropped.
