Review

If you’re into emo and alternative well-produced rock, then look no further. These fellow Swedes are from the mid-part of our tall country and they call themselves MANDYLON. Don’t ask me where the weird title of the album is taken from, but I am sure someone will enlighten me one day.

“A good excuse and a yellow sun” is an album that makes me think of bands like THE ARK as well as 90’s SIMPLE MINDS. Since I am not a collector of emo/alternative rock/pop, I am not able to give you better comparisons than that. You get a lovely production and pop/rock music that mixes melancholy, a fraction of darkness and still great melodies. I actually think of U2 as well, for example in “Freddy”. Sogs I’d like to recommend would be “Beautiful day” (with lots of THE ARK vibes) and the opener “Nnnwaah” which could have been on the “Neapolis” album by SIMPLE MINDS.

The guys in MANDYLON are really good musicians, and the one shining the most is lead vocalist and guitarist Sven Hoger Rosenvinge who is a gem. I am sure lots of readers will love this CD, so just disregard the fact that it’s a westcoast/AOR/hard rock guy writing this review. Everyone must have exceptions, right?
