Review

I picked out two albums that really stood out in 2008; one was the amazing JaR CD (the project by Jay Graydon and Randy Goodrum) and the other was this Ole Börud CD "Shakin´ the ground". This Norwegian guy released the solo album "Chi-rho" a few years back, with splendid hi-tech, modern rock and hints of AOR in it. This time he´s even improved (if possible!) and at the same time changed music style into soul/westcoast, with lots of groove and r´n´b flavours.

If you like BILL CHAMPLIN, EARTH WIND & FIRE, LEVEL 42, MICHAEL RUFF or even PAGES and NIELSEN/PEARSON - this one´s surely for you! Check out the title track "Shakin´ the ground" where it sounds a lot like what Nielsen/Pearson did on their awesome self-titled album from 1980. In comparison this song is a but more soul based, though. If you need to stomp your feet, then try "Spreading the news" which is the perfect combination of EARTH WIND & FIRE and LEVEL 42. The crispy guitar sound is a brilliant ingredience here. 9 out of 10 producers would have chosen a clean guitar sound, but it´s such a cool move to go for the "crunchy" solution! Then every fan of CHRIS EATON, MICHAEL RUFF and BILL LaBOUNTY get their share in the mid-tempo soul/westcoaster "This blood". The musicianship is almost not of this Earth on this CD, and the way Ole Börud sings! Phew. World Class all the way!!!
