Review

There´s no doubt the British band Yes is one of the first progressive rock groups along with Genesis and Van Der Graaf Generator. Yes have released 20 studio albums and their 21st "Heaven and earth" will be out in July this year, their 12 first studio albums are now available in a box set including 62 bonus tracks. But there´s nothing new here, these are the same as the 2003/2004 expanded and remastered versions. And I must say that the package is terrible where the cd´s fall out of the sleeves. There´s no booklet either with any info about the bonus tracks or the band whatsoever, only the tracklist on the cd itself.
However, you can´t take away that the music Yes created between 1969 and 1987 was timeless and inspirational. Their amazing harmony vocals seperated them from other prog bands this era, like King Crimson, ELP or Genesis.
A fun story about the band was when they were a bit too pretentious and wanted to perform the double album Tales of topographic oceans in it´s entirety on the 1974 tour. The album consists of only 4 long tracks and by the time they had played halfway through the set, people were asleep at the frontseats, says Chris Squire.
My personal favorites are 90125 and Drama but there´s no denying the albums Fragile and Close to the edge are all-time classics.

Playlist: Every little thing, Survival (Yes) Astral traveller, Time and a word (Time and a word) Yours is no disgrace, I´ve seen all good people (The Yes Album) Roundabout, Southside of the sky (Fragile) Siberian Kathru, And you and I (Close to the edge) The ancient giants under the sun, Ritual (Tales of topographic oceans)
The gates of delirium, Sound chaser (Relayer) Parallels, Wonderous stories (Going for the one) Release Release, Dont kill the whale (Tormato) Does it really happen, Tempus fugit (Drama) Changes, Leave it (90125) Shoot high aim low, Love will find a way (Big generator)

Did you know that?

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler auditioned for Led Zeppelin when Robert Plant did not want to do a world tour. Tyler and Jimmy Page agreed on that it wouldn´t work.
