Review

Within the progressive rock genre you often find either a bunch of bands clearly influenced by the giants DREAM THEATER – or, in the other case, lots of bands obviously in love with PINK FLOYD or GENESIS. Well, Swedish band MAZE OF TIME makes be happy by actually delivering a blend of BOTH these paths. And they even add something of their own to the music. They have the fine taste of knowing when to go for “less is more”, where other artists tend to overdo it and try to play as fast as they can (and not always getting away with it). I think of their countrymen GALLEON in “Station To Station”, while they’re approaching progressive AOR in “Playgrounds”. Except for the aforementioned influences, I also need to mention YES, SAGA and MARILLION. Any fan of all these bands will feel at home here. Good musicianship and a fine singer in Jesper Landén.
