Review

Wow! Simply incredible from start to finish! Asking Alexandria is in a league of their own with the release of Stand Up And Scream. The first time I heard this album I was hooked. Hardcore bands aren’t my favorite to listen to, but Asking Alexandria has so much more to offer than a bunch of grizzled screams. Danny Worsnop (lead vocals and keyboard) provides some of the best clean vocals in any metal band I have heard. Cameron Liddell (lead guitar) and Ben Bruce (rhythm guitar) might just be the highlight of the record for me. These guys absolutely shred on the album. I may have also just fallen in love with producer Joey Sturgis. The production is top notch, everything sounds incredible. What really set this band apart for me was the lack of electronic and synth beats on this album. They used them sparingly throughout which was a nice change of pace. So many hardcore bands seem too be overdoing it lately. You end up listening to a metal song one minute, then a techno song another. Asking Alexandria know exactly what they are doing here. This album is just pure adrenaline once you play it. It does have some electronic beats along the way, but like I said. They are minimal and when used, are used perfectly. This is one of those albums where I can’t give you a listing of favorite songs since I love them all. I will just give you a place to start if you want to check them out. “If You Can’t Ride Two Horses At Once..You Should Get Out Of The Circus”, “A Single Moment of Sincerity”, “Hey There Mr. Brooks”, “A Candlelit Dinner With Inamorta” and “When Everyday’s The Weekend”. You won’t go wrong with any one of these to start out with.

Did you know that?

Queen were originally called Smile. Singer Freddie Mercury came up with the new name for the band, later saying: "Years ago I thought up the name “Queen” … It’s just a name, but it’s very regal obviously, and it sounds splendid … It’s a strong name, very universal and immediate. It had a lot of visual potential and was open to all sorts of interpretations. I was certainly aware of gay connotations, but that was just one face of it."
