Review

I just realized that Melodic.net did not have a review of one of the best albums of 2009. Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons' album is brilliant, from the start to the finish.

The opening song and lead single "Born Again" sets the tone. An up-tempo song with hand claps and hammond organ that just captures you and a chorus that sticks in your head. During the album Cory and the band show that they can handle both up-tempo songs and ballads. Examples of this are the previously mentioned "Born Again", "Longer Time at Sea" and "So Wrong for Me" which are songs that showcases the talent of this group.

However, the song that really blows my mind, is the ballad, "Tennesse". It's a simply breathtaking song that is my favorite song of the album. It has a simple arrangement, but it really shows the vocal talent of Cory and the backing vocalist Adriel Harris. Their voices melt together perfectly and when the bridge of the song plays I just melt. Such a brilliant song.

Death Won't Send a Letter is one of those albums that you put on, and play from the beginning to the end without skipping a single track. Overall the vocal contribution from both Cory and Adriel is great, and it always refreshing to hear albums that have an "organic" sound, with not too many electronic effects.

If you missed this album last year, make sure you get it now. One of the best albums of 2009!

I can't believe I didn't even think to review this! He's from my home state, and I love this CD.

Did you know that?

When The Jimi Hendrix Experience released its first single, "Hey Joe," they did not have a US recording deal.
