Review

I don´t listen that much to instrumental guitar music, it happens occasionally that an album by Jeff Beck or Joe Satriani fills my speaker system and also the German six string bender Raimund Burke. A while back, I did a review of his previous album "Into my arena" that surprised me a lot with songbased instrumental themes where Raimund focused on melodies and cool rockmusic. Recently Raimund sent me an e-mail requesting a review of his new Christmas album and I must admit that I wasn´t too happy at first to listen to christmas songs in October because there is only one time a year when this sorts of music works and it is around Dec 13th-26th.

But this guy surprised me once again with a real entertaining album of christmas classics where Raimund turns these traditional winter hymns into his own moody rock songs. He´s flirting with Thin Lizzy on "Santa Claus is coming to town" and goes Van Halen-mad on "Have yourself a merry little christmas", this is so much more fun to listen to than Mariah Carey. The intro with a kid trying to play electric guitar on "Rudolph the red nosed reindeer" is awesome, after the words "Santa, I wish I could play electric guitar" Raimund steps in and show the kid how to do it. Lovely!
