If you would ask people in the Christian musicscene to mention five of the top worship acts then probably nine out of ten would mention the name Chris Tomlin among those five. In the sea of worship bands Chris Tomlin is one of the major acts.
This is a good thing for the band, cause fans tend to buy his albums once they hit the shelfs. So the formula is good. The downside is that as an artist you can choose to keep doing the good things you are doing or you could try something different with the chance of disappointing your fans and loosing your position. Tomlin always moves on the save side and that’s okay. The albums are of good quality, but don’t cover any new ground and are somewhat predictable. So if you are looking for something different than the usual, you should look further. If you are looking for a solid album with memorable songs to sing-along with then this is the album for you. Because no matter what critics may say, the music is still good and there are some fine moments on “and if our God is for us…”. Chris has also a bunch of capable co-writers like Matt Redman, Jason Ingram, Reuben Morgan, Matt Maher and Nathan and Christy Nockels. The last one also sings a duet with Chris on the beautiful ballad “Faithful”. If you can get the limited edition of this album you will get four additional acoustic tracks of which three are acoustic versions of albumsongs. The forth one is “Where the spirit of the Lord is” that is a great song with again Christy Nockels. Also you get a DVD with behind the scenes footage and video’s of the songs “Love” and “I will rise”. All in all this is still a good and enjoyable.
