Review

Kip Boardman´s 3rd and most ambitious album to date was produced by Eric Heywood (Ray LaMontagne, Son Volt) and features members of Ray LaMontagne´s Pariah Dog backing band, Jennifer Condos on bass, Jay Bellerose on drums and Ryan Freeland on accordion. Kip has released two previous albums, 2003´s Upon the stars on Ridisculous Records and 2005´s Hello I must be.... on Mesmer Records. The new album "The long weight" marks the return for Kip Boardman on Ridisculous Records with an album that mines the rich musical landscape of a distinctly American songbook with shades of Toussaint. It´s a step into the late afternoon sun with country, folk and pop. The album starts rather soft and gentle with "All fall down" and even though I am not that all impressed at first, many of the songs keep growing on me after the 2nd time around where "Mysterous stranger" and "This too shall past" stand out as personal favorites. Kip doesn´t disappoint with The long weight.
