Review

The anticipated second album In Progress from the Swedish AOR band Work Of Art is nothing but a classic piece of work. The debut album Artwork was released in 2008 and took both the AOR fans and press by storm and was filled with stunning music in the best Toto Isolation and Seventh One style mixed with some Journey influences.

Now the question was if they could manage to come up with an even better album than the debut? The answer is YES. The new album is a bit tougher than the debut and that suits me just fine and the songs are filled with stunning hooks lines, melodies, arrangements and catchy choruses. Robert Sall, the main songwriter and guitarist has come up with high class songs and singer Lars Safsund has never sounded better.

The opening track The Rain may be the best AOR-song of 2011 with a splendid mixture of Toto meets Giant with layers of keyboards and a chorus to die for, awesome stuff. Nature of The Game is a huge AOR-song with Street Talk in mind with great riffs and wonderful melodies and the chorus will hook you up with stunning harmonies. The pompish keyboards on Never Love Again is brilliant and makes you want to play air-keys in the best Journey style. Eye Of The Storm is a pure AOR-heaven with superb mix of keys and guitars with a chorus that rocks big time.

The first single from the album is The Great Fall that’s pure AOR-heaven with an outstanding chorus where Giant meets Seventh Key with outstanding keyboard work. The Toto smelling Emelie is nothing but pure joy to listen to and the chorus is a winner. Fall Down is the Westcoast song of the album and reminds a lot of Chicago at their peak, wonderful stuff.

Castaway is a brilliant AOR-rocker with a H.E.A.T feel over it or should I say Giant with a great guitar work from Robert and the chorus is huge. I can say that there’s not a single filler on this album and you will get an album with twelve AOR-crackers that you will play again and again and again. The production is nothing but classy and sounds crystal clear. This might be the AOR album of the year and its a work of art. Get your copy right now and order a copy for your friend as well.
