Cage9 is one of those bands that have received way too little attention. Thinks that they are of of the most bands in the Modern rock with awesome songs and an own style. Their last two albums El Motivo and Survival Plan are really given if you're straight and straightforward rock like Foo Fighters meets The Exies.
Their new album How To Shoot Lasers From Your Eyes is like the previous releases no exception and is nothing but top class. We got a bit more effects in production this time, but it is done with thought and thinks that it's taken the band's sound to a new level.
Tracks like "Beg for Mercy," "The Master of Your Disaster" and "How to Shoot Lasers from Your Eyes" are world class and overall is this album one of the 2012 most abandoned ones in modern rock genre.

| Cain’s Offering is the new band with Jani Liimatainen (ex-Sonata Arctica and ex-Altaria) and Stratovarious singer Timo Kotipelto. This is typical powerful Finnish fast-paced power metal with some traditional classic hardrock influences. This is a mixture of Stratovarious meets a heavier Brother Firetribe. I think this sounds better than Stratovarious but they don’t come up to the same level as Brother Firetribe. The production is crystal clear and has that Finnish touch over it but it sounds huge and powerful. The songs that lifts up this album are the ones that reminds of a heavier Brother Firetribe. The songs I’m thinking of are the beautiful ballad Into The Blue with a epic chorus, the fantastic up-tempo rocker Thorns In My Side that sounds just like Brother Firetribe meets Nightwish with a huge chorus and the fantastic piano ballad Elegantly Broken. Dawn Of Solace is a fast-paced power metal rocker with strong melodies and a Helloween sounding chorus. This is a very solid album with couple of winners and Timo sings very good and I don’t know if I have heard him this good. So if you´re into powerful melodic music from Finland then this is something you should check out. |

| Cal Hollow is a group of four guys from Los Angeles and none of them is called Cal Hollow. This is pop/rock quite similar to the nice band Freddy Jones Band,or you could say a mix of Matchbook 20 and Hootie and the blowfish. This is a 50/50 record.Half of the songs are good and the other half is just ok.Some of the songs could have been a lot better if they had had better choruses. The ninth song Restless is damn good and would have been perfect in an american highschool movie like Shes all that. So if you like wellproduced pop/rock like the groups ive mentioned, you could buy it without getting dissapointed. |

A couple of weeks back me and my wife watched a documentary about two sets of sisters from Malmo, Sweden that flew over to the states to try to seek their fortune in Nashville. They managed to get a meeting with the label manager of Universal Records and played a few songs live in the studio for him and the staff at the record label, they immediately fell in love with the girls and signed a record deal within a few days. They call themselves Calaisa and already have a hit with "Hey girl", I won?t be surprised if they will perform or will be nominated at the Country Music Awards 2007 because their harmony vocals are right on spot. The music brings thoughts to The Corrs and The Dixie Chicks, a modern country/pop sound with a touch of Irish folk music. My wife loves this album and I am pretty sure, they will recruit even more fans this year. |

There are so many great debut albums on the Christian rock scene. Don?t ask me why it is like that but here you have another one you definitely should check out if you like Switchfoot, David Crowder Band, Starfield, Keane, Delirious, Jeremy Camp and a young and horny Steven Curtis Chapman. Caleb Rowden who releases his album on the up and coming Slanted Records which is an imprint to Word sits on some great refrains to be honest and the production signed by Dan Needham (Steven Curtis Chapman, Stacie Orrico among others) and Kevan Cyka (REM, Hilary Duff and more) is fat like an American donut. Just listen to songs like ?The Journey? (phew what harmonyvocals?), ?Free From Ordinary? with could have been a hit with Switchfoot, the Keane smelling ?Wait?, the Five For Fighting smelling "Falling" and finally the rockier ?Alone?. Geeh ? real freekin? impressing is what it is and he sure is worth four safe and strong stars. Great debut. |

The christian foursome Calebs Faith wants to spread the message of god via their music but that?s the problem with their 2nd album "Despite me" coz there?s got to be soul and fire behind the melodies and the performance to be able to reach out and I can?t find any of them in Calebs Faith?s performance. It?s the same thing with a good story in a movie that goes down the drain mainly because of bad actors or a sloppy director, these musicians seems to have written the same song over and over again - talk about monotone plus a tired vocalist whom should?ve been awake by the sound of the bell instead of making zzzleepy melodies. The track "Wondrous cross" is ok but I would rather hear that song with a bigger budget in the recording studio. There?s no fire or glow in CF?s music and without that important part - the songs on "Despite me" will be forgotten sooner than later. |

The German thrashmetal band Caliban started in 1997 and has released 7 studio albums up to date. The new album "The awakening" will get a release date in US on Roadrunner later this fall and is perhaps their most melodic piece of work so far. But melodic fans should watch out because there are plenty of murderous thrash metal songs on the album to satisfy the most demanding mosh freak. Expect clean vocals on just a few songs and growls on the rest, but melodic tracks like "I will never let you down", "My time has come", "I believe" and "I´ll show no fear" takes the band up to new heights if you ask me. Highly recommendable for fans of Killswitch Engage, Raunchy and Soilwork. |

| The one-off release (as far as I know) by CALL & RESPONSE is a very interesting piece of plastic, indeed. This Christian band showed great musicianship and an addiction for melodies and nice arrangements. It's a 9 track album that kicks off with "You drive me crazy", delivering some DAN REED NETWORK elements with its blend of soul, funk and rock. Same goes for the next one, "Oh Lord". It gets a little more hard rock based in "Hot city tonight", still with a funky vibe. However, this band put in some variations in their style, without losing their way. "Wake up" actually reminds me a lot of PRINCE, while they show they can handle blues rock in "Where did you learn so much about me". HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS, as well as STEVE WINWOOD pop up in my mind when I hear "I want you out of my life", and they really do it well. Finally, I recommend you to listen to "We're gonna party" - another funk rocker with a very nice beat. With a production of a major label, this album would probably have received 4 in grading. |

Call Me No One is Clint Lowery and Morgan Rose from Sevendust new projects. With them is also Rek Mohr (Hurt) on bass and Shinedown’s touring guitarist Alan Price on guitar. And of course there are similarities between those guys and Sevendust as both of them offer large and powerful melodies. However, Call Me No One is more melodic and has replaced the metal to hardrock, which means that they’re somewhat more commercial. Personally I think that they balanced it perfectly musically as they never gets soft and dull in any way. Also believe that most of their old fans will like it because it feels like a natural evolution of what we heard before from them. You will find some similarities to the mighty "Season" record, but also a certain portion of Shinedown and Alter Bridge, which means that it is both heavy and melodic.
I am also impressed with the song material here that is really strong. The opening tracks "The World Is Dead" and "Thunderbird†are both impressive and all fans of tougher Modern Rock will love those for sure. The quieter tracks "All's Well" and "Broken" is also on top and show that the band masters several types of tempo and melodies.
So if you like Modern Rock mixed with some Metal like bands I compared them with, this is an album that you should get without a doubt! |

| From Melbourne, Autstralien will Calling All Cars with brothers Haydn Ing (Vocals + Guitar) and James Ing (Drums + Backing Vocals), but also Adam Montgomery (Bass + Backing Vocals). And this is a very cool and edgy record of straight and uncomplicated rock that fans of Foo Fighters will really love. It is pure rock from start to finish with a really strong song material in a very fitting package. It’s a bit unpolished and they got a bit of a garage feeling in their sound, but that is precisely what makes Calling All Cars as good as they are. The simplicity and also melodic style makes them pretty smiliar to Grohl and Co., but also bands like injected, Straight Frank, Royal Republic and Autovein. So this is quality rock from start to end with tons of energy and a bunch of great rocks songs. So just to check up if you like clean and harder rock, without and signs of overproduction and wimpy ballads. |

It´s real easy to have a deja vu experience these days when it comes to modern rock music, Dallas based Calling Matthew is just another forgettable band in the jungle of mainstream radio rock from U.S. They sound like a 2nd division Breaking Benjamin, the songs are ok and the performance is as good as you can expect from a hardworking band but the originality of the sound is zero, nada, lost beyond hope.
Carolines Spine guitarist Mark Haugh is guesting on the album and the song "Livin in a dream" is featured on The Stitcher Soundtrack. This album might give you something if you want every record to sound like Lo-Pro, Three Days Grace or Breaking Benjamin to give a few examples but I need that special extra in a band if they insist on sounding like a 1000 other bands. Calling Matthew just don´t have it, the opening track "Vertigo" is pretty good and the catchy "Last chance for romance" works quite well but the rest doesn´t move me at all. |

Swedish rapmetal is not a common phenomenon,Clawfinger are the leaders in this country but now the new band Calm Chaos do their best to carry the flag of Swedish rapmetal in the 21st century. This 6 piece sounds like a mix of Clawfinger,Skintrade and Rage against the machine - no shit they have potential coz they deliver some killer riffs but not all songs stand up as strong as the best ones do. The song "Conversation" is a good proof of what this band is capable of,too bad they can?t bring a whole album of steam like this but when they are good - they?re really good! |

| Yes, I know I have hyped a few records this week... But what the heck can I do when the CDs are this good. Camaro Hair is a thrilling four-piece band combining the best crativity from UK bands like Coldplay and Placebo, with a more US polished production. And that is a thrilling combination WE LOVE here at The Melodic Net. This CD is actually DAMN good I must say. I love the sound. The songs. The vibe. And the singer... god damn... Yepp - it is truly another CD you have to check out. If you dont trust me, click on the CD BABY link and listen yourself. Listen to second out "Disaster" with such an edge. Listen to third out "Marathon" which sounds like the perfect mix between a young and horny U2 on a picknick with Splender. And in that way it continues. Yeah I told you it was good. And a big proof that a great production doesnt have to be on a major release. Camaro Hair is here to stay. Remember where you read about them first. Im stunned. And then I havent mentioned "Wait In Line" with almost a progressive edge in the verses. What a f*****g amazingly good song! What an edge! Marvellous stuff folks. Marvellous! |

| Camera Can not Lie is a cool new rock band based out of Owatonna, MN. They were discovered by Grammy Award-winning record producer, Stephen Short (Augustana, This World Fair) and is currently signed to Atlantic Records. The band was last year in the studio with producer Ron Aniello recording for their upcoming full length album, but also for this new EP, Days & Days EP. And this is a very pleasant experience if ou like modern rock with a little retro style. For this band has a clear 90 century vibe like Augustana, Big 10-4, Green River Ordinance, and why not Switchfoot. Equally good are they also, which they really show in songs like "Casualty" and "The One That Got Away" with wonderful melodies and choruses. So this EP is just to get if you like classic and modern rock while waiting for their upcoming album! |
