Having released albums since 1995, this is the sixth album by the Germans of POVERTY´S NO CRIME. They belong to the progressive hard rock genre, so friends of DREAM THEATER, LION´S SHARE and maybe even VANDEN PLAS shall feel chosen to check these guys up. To be frank, I would say POVERTY´S NO CRIME gives you a less progressive music style than DREAM THEATER or VANDEN PLAS, though. Try "Open your eyes" for some of the more progressively tinged songs, while "The torture" explores a quite doomy territory, where CANDLEMASS and CRUX come to mind. It´s actually a cool song and one of the best ones here. Another band I think of when listening to this CD is AT VANCE. I´d say all of the bands mentioned are better than POVERTY´S NO CRIME, but they´re still worth checking up if you need to find new bands for your melodic hard rock and progressive collection. Lst but not least I´ll give you the semi-ballad "The key to creativity" which is a goodie with a suggestive sound. |

I don?t usually listen a lot to instrumental music and care less for full albums performed on acoustic guitar so I didn?t expect anything from this album to be honest. But I got interested in this guy Rob Eberhard Young when I read on Kip Winger?s website that he had played on Rob?s latest unreleased album "Speak". Since that album is in limbo and Rob is negotiating to get it released, he was willing to send me his latest release "Consistent variation" which is a re-issue of a recording done in 1993 on just an acoustic guitar with the exception of the tracks "Perfect strangers" and "Reprise" that features a performance by H.G Gibbons on piano as well.
Well, I was blown away by Rob?s work with his fingers and got myself a new favorite guitarplayer up there in the same league as Eddie Vanhalen, Steve Morse, Neal Schon, Steve Howe and Al DiMeola. This guy deserves to be nominated for the best guitarist in the world in magazines like Guitar Player and Guitar World - ok,so John Petrucci, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and occasionally Yngwie Malmsteen have toured around the world with G3 but they forgot to invite Rob Eberhard Young. My god what an amazing record, it?s not just about notes being played fast - no this album is done with the same feel as Eric Clapton playing Eddie Vanhalen?s "Spanish fly" on the same level of entertainment as an evening with McLaughlin,DiMeola and Paco DeLucia. Rob! When do I get to hear "Speak"? |

| Here is an album that you guys and girls who like modern singer songwriters need to check out. The Swedish 37 year old Simo Elvnäs delivers a really solid piece of plastic with strong melodies, lyrics and hisdistinctive soothing and smooth style vocals. Really impressive. Everything produced in a very good way by Glen Scott who've worked with Eric Bibb, Ron Sexsmith, Stephen Simmonds and Sarah Dawn Finer to name a few. If you like names like Gary Jules, Matt Nathanson and Joe Henry will have a friend in this guy and his music. The duet "I Will Change It All" with Frida Öhrn is one of the most beautiful songs coming from Sweden for a long time. |

Minnesota based singer/songwriter Terry Eason sounds like Niclas Frisk of Atomic Swing (remember the hit "Stone me in to your groove"?)when he sings. Just listen to "Beginning of the sun" from Eason´s 8th solo album "Sentimental vanity", the music however leans more towards psychedelic piano based indie prog. It´s very difficult to label this music and why should I? The only thing that should matter is if the songs are great, Terry doesn´t write songs to end up on American Idol - no singer on that show would understand his quirky tunes anyhow. He´s an odd songwriter that does about anything that suits him for the moment, whatever the song needs.
It´s an interesting album but I also really can´t get into the music the way I want to, there are some cool songs on it ofcourse or how do you feel about a more jazzy Gregg Alexander like in "Miss Egmont". If you think Ben Folds collaborating with Bob Dylan sounds like a nice thing, then the result very well could be "Karma bull". The Tom Petty-like "Miracle man" is one of my favorites but I think "Cartwheels and cotillions" is nice too, this one reminds a bit of a mix between 10cc and Todd Rundgren. The Stranglers meets Talking Heads in "Megalomaniac", so you see - there are plenty of varied musical influences here. |

| A guy that also will end up at the midwest section. Hes a typical new modern singer songwriter with good songs and intelligent lyrics all over. We also find ourselves a nice cool production signed Joe Chicarelli. If you have guys like Ryan Adams and Matthew ryan in your collections check the guy up at once. Nothing exceptional. Just very good. |

| Another Brad Jones produced CD. Mr Easton plays a tougher and more modern version of Steve Earle/Townes Van Zandt type of dirtdigging rock. Third out ?Torture Comes To Minnd? is a superb straight ahead rocker with a great portion of attitude and melodies. Buy pronto if you enjoy Earle and the others? |

Lion Music has specialized in releasing instrumental guitar rock and progressive metal, the release of Section A guitarist Torben Enevoldsen new solo album is no exception. "Flying solo" is a piece of work that will fit in nicely with the rest of the label?s instrumental collection,Torben is a fine guitarplayer that mixes floating guitar rock a la Satriani with laid back jazzrock and even some raw heaviness of downtuned metal. You should only take your time and listen to this album if you?re a lover of instrumental guitar rock, the good thing about "Flying solo" is that Torben doesn?t show off like some speedy gonzalez more than a few times - melodies are the core of his music. Good album. |

Zane Ellis is a real worshipper that made it his goal to bring people to a living relationship with Jesus Christ. His music can be compared to worshippers like Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin and others. The problem here is that the songs are not as memorable as the songs of the mentioned artists. Not that the eight songs on the album are bad, but they are also not topnotch. In church-worship the band will do just fine, but the big audience will not notice I?m afraid. Songs worth mentioning are ?Glorious? and ?Desperate?.
Songs: 1. Glorious 2. Exodus 34 3. I am 4. Desperate 5. This heart 6. Amazing 7. Rest 8. Empty me |
