| Marvellous 3 guy is now a Marvellous 1 man! Step aside and make way for the prince of modern rock. If you love Cheap Trick and his group Marvellous 3 this is a must for you rockers! It?s not a dull moment within every 45 minutes of pure splendid mixtape tunes,I really do hope this album will take him up on the charts because he earns it. "My way" could be a Cheap Trick song and me as a huge Trick fan goes berserk over that track. Powerpop pearl "Suburbia" will get you in the mood right away! Maybe the best chorus on the album is "Into the black" where Nikki Sixx plays the bass(?!). I just have to mention another fave also,it?s "Diary of a San Fernando Sex Star".....oh,what a bunch of heavenly melodies you get there. This is a fave of the melodic.net staff and will be for you all out there too. Highly recommendable. |

Butch is a Titan of modern rock, not in counting the sales of his first solo album "Left of self centered" but with looking at his work as a producer, songwriter and being the coolest rockstar on earth-is enough to give him a star on Hollywood Boulevard,a starring role in X-Men 3,making him the president of the rocknroll world, giving him his own NHL team or why not name a planet after him?! Without BW,these names wouldn?t sound the way they do (Avril Lavigne,American HiFi,Bowling for soup,Midtown,SR 71,Sevendust,Default,Injected.....),I think you get the idea. With this new EP,Butch has given you his Heartwork and in 2 weeks he will give you his Letters too, you?re a fool if you won?t take it coz Butch sense of melodies is pretty rare.......it?s not only about making great choruses here,no he doesn?t throw in fill out verses-if the verse ain?t any good, there won?t be any song even if the chorus feels right. With the new album "Letters",he signed a deal with Epic and the first taste is this 5 track EP with 2 songs taken from the new album,"Mixtape" (which should be on everybody?s mixtape from now on) and "Maybe it?s just me" (another brilliant BW tune). The bonus you get of buying "Heartwork" are the 2 non album tracks "Last flight out" and "My best friend?s magic girlfriend" (Cars Cover),both good enough to be included on "Letters"....they are no leftovers if you wonder. The 5th track is a full acoustic version of "Mixtape",now you know the story so join the crowd WE WANT BUTCH,WE WANT BUTCH,WE WANT BUTCH |

When I first heard the advance of Butch new album "Letters" a while back,I was a bit disappointed about the acoustic approach of the songs. I loved his first solo album "Left of self centered" which is one of the best modern rock albums ever made but unfortunately it didn?t sell very well so that?s one of the reasons Butch has taken this new direction of a more laid back and softer style. I was surprised though that he managed to get signed to Epic for the release of this new effort,BW is ofcourse a respected name as a producer and songwriter and his new label must have loved the songs on "Letters" to help out with the distribution and promotion......anyway,there is still hope for the record business when these things happen-the world needs Butch Walker. For the fans that has stayed with this songwriting hero since his former band Marvellous 3 recognizes his typical harmonies and melodies on "Letters",maybe some more people will buy his first solo as well to discover the diamond it is coz it?s so much better than the new album. I?m not saying that "Letters" is a bad record,it?s not so get that out of your heads right away but it never reaches the heights of LOSC....there should be a copy of his both albums in everyone?s home. Butch Walker is like the town of RENO,he?s the biggest little rock star in the world! |

It?s a little mean writing about this one, cause it?s not available anymore. ?Justified And Stripped? by Butch Walker came as bonus disc if you purchased his latest effort ?Letters? from Sony. I couldn?t get it that way cause it was only for Us citizens, so I had to get it on eBay. And I must say that it was some 11 very well spend $!! Just the talk between the songs is worth 100$ I can tell you! The album then was recorded in Atlanta with Butch on guitars and piano, very naked and ?stripped compared to his official releases. It could have been very boring and tiresome, but since Butch is a damn good songwriter and speaker is this damn good from start to end. You can just feel, ?Yeah this is Butch, this is like he is?.funny, smart and very talented? The musical highlights here are ?Mixtape? and ?Diary? and ?Cigarette Lighter Love Song? with amazing stories as intros. But you?ll get other favourites like ?Sober?, ?Suburbia? and ?Every Monday? so this is more or less a must for all fans and fanatics of his music. If I must complain about something do I have to say that 10 songs is a little poor, we could have had a few more. But except from that is ?Justified And Stripped? another proof who is the ?real? king. He?s not dead and from Memphis, he?s alive and from Atlanta!!! |

I respect Butch Walker a lot,he?s a clever songwriter and a great producer - any powerpop freak with decency has a copy of a marvelous 3 album in their collection and modern rock lovers gets a trip without drugs when they listen to his phenomenal solo album "Left of self centered" from 2002.
The more stripped "Letters" (2004) never reached the same heights musicwise but it still was a nice piece of work that grew if you just gave it a chance but what the hell is he doing now?
I mean,I?m a fan of glamrock myself and think it?s pretty charming that Butch pays a tribute soundwise to the era of T-Rex,David Bowie,Suzi Quatro,Mud etc - but he?s singing in the most peculiar way which I don?t get at all.......he sounds so uninspired and arrogant.
There?s a song called "Song without chorus" but a more correct title for the album should be "Album without songs" coz there are no hooks within miles, use a binocular and you could find a nice melody in "Bethamphetamine" and if you?re in a Marc Bolan mood, the opener "Hot girls in good moods" might get on you on your feet but otherwise these songs do not belong in the same fine company of Butch Walker songs we?re used to hear him.
I was a bit worried when I first heard the new song "Paid to get excited" a while back but thought maybe the rest would be more uplifting, however this wasn?t the case.
Butch wants you down to the club with his "Lets-go-out-tonites" but I?m not going out with this music, sorry Butch I forgive you this time but get your act together! |

| Here’s a cool EP with the ex Marvelous 3 hero Butch Walker. I’ve always loved his live stuff since he’s a super funny guy and writes great songs. This six track Ep then entitled Cover Me Badd confirms half of that since it’s based of live covers that he have played during the years. We got unexpected and even more unexpected ones from Kelly Clarkson, George Jones, Elvis Costello, Wings, Queen and Sandie Shaw and they’re of course damn good. The opener “Since you’ve been gone” from the Avril Lavigne tour in Japan is a nice tune, but even if it smells Marvelous 3 isn’t it the best here. The beautiful “Alison” by Elvis Costello is a gem and not to forget the MARVELOUS!! Queen medley where he’s dissing Vanilla Ice. Just this song is worth the price since it’s so freaking entertaining and well performed! The rest of the tunes are of course good since its Butch Walker that we’re talking about, but it could have been better. Four are live cuts here with different quality and 2 are studio takes, which gives a mixed feeling. But overall a cool EP that every fan should have! If you’re new to him go for the solo debut Left of self centered or any of the Marvelous 3 albums first! |

Here is a new girl we can file under singer songwriters with a touch of southern USA. And shes good without getting exceptional. Her voice is all right but doesnt really grab my heart. Perhaps it is because she has a whispering approach like Lucinda Williams. Shes somewhere between Kirsty Maccoll, Sheryl Crow and the just mentioned Lucinda Williams in style and there are some good tracks on here like third out "Nowhere Too Far" and the very beautiful "Strange Love" with a beautiful refrain with a cool steel guitar as companion. I havent really jumped on the "hype-train" of Lucinda Williams due to various reasons, and I get the same feeling with Carters album. Something is missing on the main part of the tracks to satisfy my needs. Still, its not bad, but I have at least 100 albums in the genre that I enjoy more than this. |

After the breakup of FLAW and the forming and shortly after disbanding of Five.Bolt.Main, comes the debut solo album from the front man of both groups Chris Volz. "Redemption" is released on Rock Ridge Music on Spetember 11, 2007 that was home to Five.Bolt’s debut "Venting". Doing everything that he wants to do on this album in his own way and direction with no holding back. This album is a great representation of Chris´s material and vision. Showing hints from both groups and a whole other side of Chris that we haven’t seen with either band. These songs are catchy and very melodic.
Opening with the title track "Redemption," resembling Five.Bolt.Main, this song kicks ass and has a catchy FLAW-ish chorus. Hitting us with "Altercation" catches us in a song that we have never heard from Chris before. Good catchy vibe but still on the rock side. The next song will being us to the emotion of Chris and a just kind of a pop rock ballad comes "All My Life." A great catchy ass pop rock tune.
"Wrong" follows and gives us a flashback of the FLAW "Payback" album. Good heavier tune and vibe. Any FLAW fan will dig this tune. A slower tune follows with "Your Own Medicine" which is almost Pearl Jam-ish with a bass line that captures the mood. "Once Again" shows off the more piano based type of Vol’z catalog, a great slower tune and very melodic kick in chorus. With the driving piano and good tones in the chorus shows an awesome delivery of Chris’s emotion. "Sometimes" and "Secure" are average songs that don’t really capture me that well, yet good album tracks. "Dear Life" is Chris’ "Salisbury Hill" type song with a good bass hook and vibe rocker, as I like to call them, rockier tune but no distortion and just a fun track to listen to. "Don’t Save Me" closes the album with a great overall sound and the piano track as well. Full of piano and drums the album comes to a close with this catchy tune.
Overall the album shows a great side of Chris that I think we were waiting that he probably could not capture in FLAW or Five.Bolt.Main due to maintaining the heaviness in both groups. This album shows us the heavier side of Chris and also the melodic and chill side, expressing all the emotions he has. I think would have captured it a little more with better production, but if you like the Five.Bolt.Main production you will have no problem with it. Being recorded in only two weeks the production does hold up very well. Also with the catchy hooks that are undeniable on this album gives you a great representation of what he’s all about and not to judge him from the previous efforts. This guy has a lot to get off his chest and does it in a way that will surprise a lot of people. |

If you like: Maroon 5, Kate Perry, The White Tie Affair
Description:
Chris Wallace released two albums with The White Tie Affair, where the later one, Walk This Way was released on Sony in 2008. Didn’t like that album too much with an urban and electronic sound like a mixture of Justin Timberlake and Fall Out Boy.
He is now back solo with "Push Rewind" that was released on September 4 earlier this year. And unfortunately, I must say that he has not developed his sound in the right direction, not to my taste anyway. Now there is definitely no rock tracks left and he moved towards a pure pop sound with clear club influences like a male version Kate Perry.
Do enjoy pop in most forms, but this sterile and cold-produced dance pop does not work at all and think it's quite pointless to be honest.
Highlights: "Push Rewind", "Hurricane", "I'll Be There"

| Chris Whitley has been around for a while now. It?s been eleven records in fourteen years. I bought his debut-album back in 1991 and with songs like ?Living With The Law? and ?Big Sky Country? he got me stucked ever since. The eleven albums he?s done since then are all more or less good albums. So I?m happy that I can write that the new album is one of his better in the career actually. Malcolm Burn who produced parts of his debut is back on track and I can make it clear: This is a very cool album. A lovely and unique soundscape somewhere between David Bowie, Daniel Lanois, deltablues, Jeff Buckley, Robert Plant and hell know what else. The ?mishmash? of styles is so cool and the album on high volume with your earphones as the companion is a very good idea if you wanna have a trip out in space without green pills. |

| When you see the name Cary Pierce (Jackopierce and much more) you know you will have a quality production in front of you, and this CD with Creede Williams is no exception. But it´s not that exceptional either. It´s 10 well written songs with a good singer and well... you heard it 1 million times before. So even if it´s done very well - there is a little lack of nerve missing and I have forgotten this album by next month. That without saying that it is bad. |

| The Next Draft by Daniel Watters is a very nice and beautiful musical experience. With a nice pop swing and influences from both Paul Simon and The Beatles this Los Angeles based guy have successfully created an album that should work all the power-pop fans. It has a very clear positive message, like a more stripped-down Jellyfish, but with a bit more electro here and there. The Next Draft also contains a couple of instrumentals and more cinematic tracks that show Daniel talent. That would not surprise me if he even went in to that track later in his career since he has interesting ideas and good sense of production. However, I think the disc is a bit fuzzy when he switches between different styles and doesn’t have a clear track. But the opening "Alchemist" and the piano-based "Impressionist" is really nice pop for sure, which makes him worth checking out. |

The former Tyketto and Waysted lead singer Danny Vaughn is back with a new soloalbum. It was back in 1990 Tyketto released their classic "Don?t Come Easy" album that is the best album Danny has sang on. Tyketto also released a 2nd album with "Strength In Numbers" that did not live up to the same quality as the debut but still was a nice album. After that Danny left Tyketto and did a blues rock album with "Flesh And Blood" that vanished in the haze. Then he released two albums under the name Vaughn.
2004 we saw him return to his melodic rock roots with "From The Inside" album that is very strong. So now in 2007 he will release an album under his own name together with Tony Marshall (Contagious), Pat Heath (Brave New World), Steve McKenna (Ten) and Lee Morris (Paradise Lost). Soundwise, this new album could be described like a mixture of Strength In Numbers meets his first solo album Soldiers And Sailors On Riverside. He is a damn fine singer and he gets the chance to shine out on this album, many of the tracks are lifted up by his amazing vocals. When the songs rock, I think this album is really good but the grading is taken down by the laid back and mellow tracks that never takes off even if he delivers some impressive vocals.
So tracks like "Miracle Days" with a celtic start shows the best side of Danny, a great melodic rocker. "Badland Rain" could have been taken from a Tyketto album, this is a strong rocker with plenty of melodies and a brilliant chorus. The start of this album is really nice. But songs like "That?s What She Says" and "The Touch Of Your Hand" in the middle feels out of place and are two average songs. "The Warrior?s Way" is much better where he delivers more riffs with the best chorus of the album, a song that reminds a lot of Tyketto - listen to the great hooks in the chorus. "The Measure Of A Man" is an acoustic rocker with stunning melodies and Danny sings his heart out. The chorus is pure magic, I think he has listened to Bruce Springsteen because this song reminds of The Boss. The end of the album is a bit weak with a couple of songs that don?t do much for me. Danny has produced the album by himself and done a nice job. This is an album that has it?s moments but also a couple of less good songs. I hope on the next album that Danny delivers more up-tempo rockers that he does best. A nice album without that extra touch. |

Did you know that?
A friend once said "What a Motley looking Crew" - Motley meaning "of great variety" and once describing the appearance of a court jester. The re-spelling of Motley Crue was their own invention; and said to have came to them while they were partying & drinking Lowenbrau beer.
