Pronunciation: ?flask, fl[a?]sk Function: noun
The dictionary defines a FLASK as a container often somewhat narrowed toward the outlet and often fitted with a closure: a broad flattened necked vessel used especially to carry alcoholic beverages on the person. Well, there?s nothing narrow about THE FLASK - a new band led by KENNY OLSON, the guitar master known to millions of Kid Rock (Twisted Brown Trucker) followers, who shreds it up on lead guitar - earning respect from legions of fans and also from icons in the music industry. Along with Kenny, THE FLASK is comprised of music veterans Brent Grunow on Lead Vocals, Shannon Boone on Drums/Percussion and Jason Price on Bass. This combination has led to the intense alcohol mix, which fuels both the music and their live shows, thus earning the name THE FLASK.
KENNY OLSON and the band came out of the womb ready to rock. All of the guys came from homes where music was greatly appreciated and began their musical odyssey at early ages influenced by the legendary bands of the ?60?s and ?70?s. By their early teens, all the guys started performing in local area bands. It was inevitable that this foursome eventually got together to form THE FLASK since all are originally from the Detroit/Michigan area, had similar childhoods and have a great love for Rock n Roll and the musical greats before them.
While at his home/studio, Kenny began writing songs with drummer Shannon Boone (a.k.a. the production team for The Scorpio Brothers). The rest quickly fell into place. ?Brent [my singer, Brent Grunow] was brought to me by a mutual friend of ours to produce a demo for him,? Olson explains. ?He came in from New York? and we got in my studio and him and I just started writing song after song together ? me and him and Shannon ? and it ended up turning into The Flask.? With the addition of bassist Jason Price, The Flask began to find their sound.
The music has been described by Kenny as ?old-school rock ?n? roll,? with decided blues and R&B influences on grooving up-tempo material and ballads alike. From early stand-out tracks such as ?Killer In A Cadillac? to the haunting ?Dark Moon? and infectious ?Aero Park? it is clear that THE FLASK are about to fill the void that has been missing in the Rock market place for far too long. The group also has crafted one epic, ?Gold Rush,? which features a four-minute guitar solo by Olson. He says The Flask will satisfy ?anybody who wants to see a really rockin? show. And the band has a lot of the element of that old Detroit sound that once was around back in the early ?70s.?
To capture the ?old-school rock ?n? roll? sound of what THE FLASK has created, they turned to the legendary Eddie Kramer to mix the album. Kramer?s best known for his work with Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Kiss, which continues to inspire musicians and producers around the world. ?To have gotten to know Eddie over the years through the Hendrix Foundation is a privilege, knowing all the albums he?s worked on, but for Eddie to do his magic in mixing our record is very special and meaningful to me?, say Olson.
The fans agree. THE FLASK played their debut show in Ferndale, MI in December 2005 to a sold-out crowd, who had not yet heard any music and fans have been posting messages like ?Kenny O, you guys tore it up at your debut in Detroit? and ?Can?t wait to see another show.?
KENNY OLSON has played with some of the biggest names in the music business. From Sheryl Crow, Metallica, Chaka Khan, Hank Williams Jr., Buddy Miles, and Aerosmith to name a few. Kenny has also played in several Jimi Hendrix tributes, which he considers to be some of his most important work. Now with THE FLASK, Kenny hopes to achieve much the same success and take the band to the great heights their musical influences have achieved.
