We are excited to present the debut of Among The Oak & Ash, started when two singer-songwriters - Josh Joplin and Garrison Starr - were looking to take a breath from their solo careers. The result is a startlingly beautiful collection of Appalachian murder ballads, with songs of death and hope, murder and love, lechery and splendor. Perhaps it is a result of living in a modern world that makes these songs instantly comforting and strikingly beautiful, because the melodies are simple and the themes timeless.

For Garrison, a modern-thinking sassy Southerner, she had her “I get it!” moment when Josh first played her the songs on acoustic guitar and she realized “I could get inside these songs in my own way.” For Joplin, this record is the culmination of a lifetime fascination with traditional music. The music of Among The Oak & Ash remind him “that there is something bigger in this world that threads us all to one another.”
