Wendy Jans is an independently-produced artist with a soul-pop sound reminiscent of Colbie Caillat and jazz-tinged vocals often likened to Norah Jones, yet with a voice and unique style that cannot be readily defined. Jans dusty, smooth tone sets her apart in a sea of redundant voices, emoting a simplicity that feels both refreshing and new. With catchy, radio-ready melodies ranging from the whimsical, lighthearted mood to darker, jazz-infused temperaments, Wendy Jans stands on her own in more ways than one.
Originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wendy moved to Nashville, TN in 2002 after fronting regionally touring bands, to pursue songwriting and performing solo. Wendy soon signed a publishing deal and developed her unique style and lyrical voice. In December 2007 Wendy released her first solo album "Today" [check out this review] and, in June 2009 released her newest album "Simple as a Song", co-produced with up-and-coming Nashville producer Chad Carlson, who engineered albums by Taylor Swift, Trisha Yearwood and Chris Isaak.
Wendy has garnered attention from the songwriting community as winner of the River Bluff Performing Songwriting Competition, a finalist in the International Song Search, winner of the Trowbridge Symposium and has received honorable mentions in the Billboard World Song Contest and Nashville Song Search.
For her song "Invincible", Wendy shot her first high definition music video in May 2008 which plays regularly on Nashvilles Music City Arts TV9, as well as through-out the Internet. In 2008, Wendy received the honor of being commissioned to write the campaign theme song for a rural revitalization effort presented by the Federal Home Loan Bank and Capital Communities. As part of the campaign, Wendy performed her song throughout the Midwest.
Wendy was selected as the spotlight artist on Nashvilles Lightning 100fm, and has received airplay on Nashville Public Radio, XM satellite radio and various internet radio stations. She tours extensively, finding receptive audiences at venues throughout the Midwest and South.
