A Family of Strangers is the new, hard-hitting rock side-project for The Butterfly Effect bass player, Glenn Esmond.
During the down times between writing records with the guys in TBE, Glenn was constantly coming up with different musical ideas that never seemed to fit within the context of what the band was trying to create collectively. A Family of Strangers was the perfect vehicle for those songs.
After much deliberating and wondering if the world indeed needed one more side project form a frustrated side-man in a biggish Aussie rock band, it was decided that the songs were too compelling and too much fun to be left on the shelf and should be set free. If only for Glenns own sanity.
A recording session was quickly scheduled at Alberts studios in Sydney with up-and-coming producer Dean Belcastro. Basic tracking was done in October, overdubs in November, mixing in January and mastering in February.
The resulting EP is called New Techniques for Beginners and Champions and is to be released in September 2010.
The official live launch of A Family of Strangers was at the Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival on May 2, 2010. The live band features some of Brisbanes best players including members of the Kate Miller-Heidke band and Vayer. A national tour to support the launch of both the project and the EP will be happening this November.
I am very excited to take this next step and I hope youll come with me. Glenn
