Insiders who have heard bass legend Jeff Berlin's newest CD are buzzing about the forthcoming release – a release that they are saying could possibly be the greatest bass album of all time! The word is that Jeff Berlin has recorded a jazz CD so astonishing that the artist himself is in shock with what he played! “I prepared for it by practicing 5 hours a day for weeks,” Jeff explains. “What came of my preparation was to record solos on the bass that I believe have never been heard before from a bass player!” Also included on these virtuosic recording sessions are Richard Drexler on piano and upright bass and legendary drummer Mike Clark, best known for his work with Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters, who had this to say about Jeff's new CD: “Everyone knows that Jeff is a virtuoso, but on his new CD he went past this! I've played with all of the great jazz bassists in the world and Jeff is at the top of my list. We locked from the first beat! The harmonic ideas that he played were unbelievable, and our time was astonishing. Jeff is the most forward-looking bassist I have ever played with. Jeff played like he wasn't afraid to take a chance at any moment – he played at the highest level without a net. There just isn't a CD like this one anywhere. He is a player's player, a total artist and it showed on our collaboration together!” Jeff added that, “Richard and Mike made this CD happen! Without them I never could have had the support and interplay that pushed me to play what I played. Mike's time was swinging like a pendulum. And Richard is a freak: he actually played acoustic bass while I was soloing and then put it down to walk to the piano and take a solo. I don't know of anyone else who could have done what he did!” Jeff Berlin's new CD, titled 'Low Standards' due to the performance of two bass players and Jeff's penchant for puns (his previous recording was called 'High Standards') is scheduled for release at the end of February 2012. |

Bennett began the live recording process with several artists during Grammy week in February at LA's famed Capital Studios. "Duets II" produced by Phil Ramone follows up "Tony Bennett Duets: An American Classic" CD, the 2006 Grammy winning best selling CD which became Bennett's best selling recording to date. Alone Tony Bennett is legendary. In partnership with another singer, he's extraordinary. A sterling all-star roster will join Tony in the studio including Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse, Mariah Carey, John Mayer, Natalie Cole, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, Josh Groban, Queen Latifah, and Aretha Franklin. Some of country's biggest names will also join the round-up including Faith Hill, Willie Nelson and Carrie Underwood. From the international pantheon: angel-voiced tenor Andrea Bocelli from Italy and Latino singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz from Spain.. Michael Bublé and k.d. lang who were both featured on the original album returned for "Duets II". All duets were recorded live in the studio with Bennett. (Scroll down to view the complete tracklisting) "I love the Great American songbook and have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to introduce many of these songs to the public...It is a thrill to perform them once again with artists that I admire to create new interpretations of the music I love so much," says Bennett. The US and international recording sessions for "Duets II" were filmed by Academy award winning cinematographer Dion Beebe ("Chicago," "Memoirs Of A Geisha", "Collateral") and are being unveiled in conjunction with the new album, providing an in depth study of Bennett's creative and artistic process. One of the album's most notable tracks is "Body and Soul", a duet between Tony and the late Amy Winehouse recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London. The song is one of her last works, and is slated for release as a single on September 14th via iTunes. All proceeds from the sale of the song will go to The Amy Winehouse Foundation, an organization set up by the singer's family to provide support for young people suffering from substance abuse. Also Bennett is scheduled to make his debut appearance at the Metropolitan Opera House on September 18. The concert will feature pop standards from the Great American Songbook, many of which Bennett has introduced and recorded to critical and popular acclaim that led to a string of greatest hits over his 60-year career. Derek Sherinian's new solo album 'Oceana' is released Monday September 5th by the Music Theories Recordings label via the Mascot Label Group. If this were the 1970's, the heyday of such keyboard titans as Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman and Jon Lord, Sherinian would be among that elite circle of players who were superstars back in the day when such talent was not only appreciated, but celebrated in popular music. This is, however, 2011, and in this age, Derek Sherinian is the premiere rock keyboardist of his generation, a member of the supergroup Black Country Communion, a former member of Dream Theater, and a solo artist in his own right. Sherinian has played keyboards with artists including Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, Yngwie Malmsteen and KISS. In addition to being a former member of Dream Theater, Sherinian was also a member of the prog rock band Platypus, and the founder of the progressive fusion metal band Planet X. 'Oceana' is mixed by legendary drummer Simon Phillips (whose drumming credits include Toto, The Who, Jeff Beck, 10CC, Roxy Music). Phillips also plays drums on the entire album. Steve Lukather collaborates with Sherinian on 'Mulholland', 'Euphoria' and 'Seven Sins', while former Planet X guitarist Tony MacAlpine performs on 'Five Elements' and 'Mercury 7'. Steve Stevens is featured on 'Ghost Runner' and the title track, while Black Country Communion band-mate Joe Bonamassa performs on 'I Heard That'. Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake) performs on 'El Camino Diablo', and Jimmy Johnson plays bass on all tracks with the exception of 'Ghost Runner' and 'Oceana', which both feature Tony Franklin. Favouring a guitar heavy rock based approach to fusion ala Jeff Beck, Sherinian's music creates a certain energy that comes through the recordings, setting him apart from other jazz fusion artists. His music also appeals to fans of technical heavy metal. Thanks to his relentless touring schedule with a wide range of well-known artists, Sherinian easily adapts to ever changing musical genres, while always maintaining his signature style.
